WHISKY TASTING JOURNAL
Terms of use
Who we are
The app is published by Umutcan Duman, as an individual ("we"). Contact: duok@duokteknoloji.com. By creating an account you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy.
Who may use it
You must be of legal drinking age where you live, and at least 18. One account per person; keep your password to yourself.
A test version
While the app is in beta it will have rough edges, features will change, and it may be unavailable at times. Please tell us what breaks — that is what a beta is for. We will try hard not to lose your data, and back it up daily, but please do not treat a beta as the only copy of anything irreplaceable.
Drink responsibly
The app is a journal and a reference. It does not encourage drinking, and nothing in it is advice to drink. Scores and notes are opinions.
Bottle recognition can be wrong
Identifying a bottle from a photo is done by an AI system and can make mistakes. The app always asks you to confirm before anything is saved. Facts looked up on the web are marked as suggestions for you to check. Always rely on the bottle's own label.
Your content
There are two different things you can do with a photo in this app, and they are treated differently. The difference is the whole of this section.
- A photo on your own tasting stays yours and stays private. So do your tastings and notes. We store them to show back to you, and show them to other people only if you mark that tasting public. They are deleted with your account, and you can delete any of them at any time before that.
- A photo you add as a whisky’s picture in the shared catalogue is a contribution to something everyone uses. When you add a photo of a bottle to a whisky in our shared catalogue, you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual licence to use it in The W App, including as that whisky’s picture shown to other users. The photo is used without your name, and it stays in the catalogue even if you delete your account — though you can always ask us to remove a specific photo: duok@duokteknoloji.com
- The licence covers showing it, not training on it. We do not use your photos to train artificial-intelligence models, and neither does the provider that reads bottle labels for us. The reading is recognition only: it tells us what the label says, and learns nothing from the picture. The same is true of your tastings and notes.
- If you would rather a photo did not stay, you can remove it before you close your account: open the whisky, tap Edit, and remove or replace the picture. Whiskies you added, and their wordings, stay in the catalogue either way — without your name — because other people’s tastings are attached to them.
- Only upload photos you took or have the right to share, and nothing unlawful, offensive, or about other people without their consent.
Please do not
Misuse the app or its bottle recognition (for example, automated or bulk requests, or trying to get around the daily limits), access other people's data, add false information to the catalogue on purpose, or interfere with the service. We may remove content or close an account that does, and will tell you why.
Ending
You can stop using the app and delete your account in the app at any time (Profile → Delete account). We may end the beta or the service; if we do, we will give you notice and a way to get a copy of your data first.
Our responsibility
The app is provided free of charge and "as is". To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect losses, or for decisions you make based on information in the app. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have by law that cannot be limited.
Changes
We may update these terms. We will change the date above and, for anything significant, tell you in the app before it applies.
